Kerry Doyle sat in an immigration courtroom observing a fellow judge finish a hearing in an asylum case late on a recent Friday afternoon when she received an email with an attachment titled “terminated.”
Doyle had been a judge for only about two months and was in training to begin hearing cases soon at a recently opened Massachusetts court. Her colleagues helped her pack up her office before the afternoon was over, she said.
“This doesn’t make sense for an administration that is prioritizing removals,” Doyle said, using the legal word for deportation. “You need the judges to hear the cases to order the person removed so that you can then carry out the removal order. It’s a vital part of the system.”
So far, the administration of President Donald Trump has fired 22 immigration judges, including a group that worked as managers of their respective courts, according to the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers, the union that represents immigration judges. The administration has also fired five senior managers of the immigration court system, the union said.

In just 48 hours, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) slashed a whopping $370 million in taxpayer dollars being spent on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) at the Department of Education.
DOGE, the newly formed department led by Elon Musk to purge spending by the federal government, revealed in a post on X that they terminated 70 DEI training grants within the department.
According to DOGE, the grants totaled $373 million.

ABC News reports that an email message sent to all SSA staff from newly appointed Acting Commissioner Dudek tonight that read he was "humbled and honored to lead this agency" until Trump's pick to lead Social Security, Frank Bisignano, is confirmed by the Senate.
The SSA has a repository of every Social Security Number that has ever been issued as well as work and pay history, banking information, and medical records for millions of Americans, according to New York Post.

A coalition of Republican attorneys general are seeking to bypass President Joe Biden’s last-minute preemptive pardon of Dr. Anthony Fauci to investigate him on a state level for his role in the COVID-19 pandemic response.
The attorneys general, led by South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, sent a letter to House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) on Wednesday asking to be kept in the loop about “any further findings or direct evidence that suggests there may have been any violation of state laws” so that “we may evaluate state-level courses of action.”

The White House stated that they removed these partisan hacks to make room for people who will actually “uphold the rule of law and protect Democracy.”
